There are a lot of free AI certifications and certificates available right now, but that does not mean they are all equally valuable. Some give you practical work you can show, while others are mainly short introductions that prove you completed a course.
I reviewed and ranked 10 popular free AI credentials from Harvard CS50, AWS, Google, Hugging Face, Salesforce, Kaggle, Oracle, IBM, the University of Helsinki, and Simplilearn. My goal was to figure out which ones are actually worth your time—not just which company has the biggest name.
My top overall choice is CS50's Introduction to Artificial Intelligence with Python at 87/100. AWS finished one point behind it and may be the better choice for an experienced technical learner who wants a shorter, job-like assessment.
I use “certification” as the broad, audience-friendly category in this ranking. The exact credentials are not all the same. This list includes course certificates, skill badges, an AWS microcredential, an annual Salesforce status, and an Oracle certification pathway. I explain those differences below because they affect how much each option can realistically help you.

CS50's Introduction to Artificial Intelligence with Python is my top overall choice. It comes from Harvard University's CS50 program and covers search, knowledge, uncertainty, optimization, machine learning, neural networks, and language through working Python projects.
This is not an easy beginner certificate. CS50 recommends taking CS50x first or having at least one year of Python experience. The course is organized across seven weeks, and the projects make it far more substantial than a short completion badge.

I ranked it first because it combines a highly recognizable name with the strongest broad education and project-based proof on this list. The main drawback is time. The free CS50 course certificate is also different from the optional paid edX verified certificate, and it is not an accredited Harvard degree.
2. AWS Agentic AI Demonstrated — 86/100
AWS Agentic AI Demonstrated is the strongest job-like assessment in my ranking. Instead of relying on multiple-choice questions, AWS gives you simulated business challenges involving Amazon Bedrock and Bedrock AgentCore.
The assessment window is 130 minutes, but that does not include any preparation you may need. I think this is best for developers, cloud professionals, solutions architects, DevOps professionals, and other technical learners who already understand AWS.

It finished one point behind CS50 because the exact AWS microcredential is still relatively new and the skills are narrowly tied to AWS. It is an AWS microcredential, not one of the main AWS Certification exams.
3. Google Prompt Design in Agent Platform — 83/100
Google's Prompt Design in Agent Platform badge is probably the most interesting choice for someone who wants something fast and practical. Google lists it as a one-hour introductory course involving prompt engineering, image analysis, multimodal techniques, hands-on labs, and a challenge assessment.

The required practical challenge is why I scored its skill proof so highly. It is still a narrow Google Skills badge rather than a Google Cloud professional certification. Google's no-cost Starter plan includes monthly credits that can be used to earn badges, but I recommend checking the current credit requirement before beginning.
4. Hugging Face AI Agents Course — 80/100
The Hugging Face AI Agents Course is my favorite option specifically for learning how agents work and building one yourself. The course covers agent theory and frameworks such as smolagents, LlamaIndex, and LangGraph.
Hugging Face offers two credential paths. My 80/100 score applies to the full certificate of completion, which requires Unit 1, a use-case assignment, and the final challenge—not just the easier fundamentals certificate.

Salesforce Agentblazer Champion 2026 is a good fit if you already work with Salesforce or want to learn Agentforce. The Trailhead path covers AI foundations, prompts, data, trust, business rules, and basic agent configuration.

Salesforce publishes a time of approximately eight hours and 28 minutes. I like the hands-on Agentforce work, but the value is much stronger inside the Salesforce ecosystem than outside it. Agentblazer Champion is an annually renewed status made up of Trailhead work; it is not the separate Salesforce Agentforce professional certification.
6. Kaggle Intro to Machine Learning — 75/100
Kaggle Intro to Machine Learning is one of the best options if you want to start writing code instead of only learning AI terminology. Kaggle, which is owned by Google, combines short tutorials with exercises involving data exploration, model building, validation, underfitting, overfitting, and random forests.

Kaggle publishes approximately three hours to earn the certificate. That is excellent for a hands-on introduction, but you need basic Python first. The course alone is not enough to qualify someone for a machine-learning job, so I would treat it as the beginning of a larger project and portfolio path.
7. Oracle OCI AI Foundations Associate — 68/100
Oracle's OCI AI Foundations pathway covers AI, machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, LLMs, OCI AI services, and related Oracle tools. I scored the researched pathway at 68/100 because it offered a structured vendor path, guided material, skill checks, and an exam in a relatively efficient format.

Important availability warning: Oracle retired the 2025 AI Foundations exam on June 22, 2026. Its public catalog said an updated 2026 version would replace it, but I could not verify a clearly labeled active replacement exam on the public page when I last checked. The training catalog is still available. Before investing time, sign in to MyLearn and confirm that the current exam and free credential-award path are active in your location.
7. IBM SkillsBuild Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals — 68/100
IBM SkillsBuild Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals tied Oracle with a score of 68/100. It is a beginner learning plan covering major AI concepts, machine learning, deep learning, NLP, computer vision, neural networks, ethics, applications, and introductory IBM tools.

IBM publishes a duration of more than 10 hours and provides a shareable digital credential through Credly. I think it is a solid beginner foundation, but it is mostly conceptual. Employers are unlikely to treat the exact Fundamentals badge like a professional IBM certification.

Elements of AI is offered by the University of Helsinki and MinnaLearn. It is a broad, nontechnical AI-literacy course covering AI concepts, search, uncertainty, machine learning, neural networks, and the societal effects of AI.

This is probably the best choice on the list for a nontechnical learner who wants a serious university-backed introduction. Simplilearn's Introduction to Artificial Intelligence course is a short beginner overview with knowledge checks and a completion certificate. It takes approximately two hours, which makes it one of the easiest options to finish.
