Self-Made Success (“Self-Made Success,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates SelfMadeSuccess.com (the “Site”). We publish research, reviews, comparisons, remote-job information, and practical tools intended to help people evaluate work, income, saving, and financial decisions.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Site, how we use and disclose it, and the choices available to you.

1. Important points at a glance

  • You can browse most of the Site without creating an account.
  • We collect information you choose to provide, such as an email address, email preferences, or a message sent through a contact form.
  • We and our service providers automatically receive certain technical and usage information when you visit the Site.
  • Advertising and analytics providers, including Google, may use cookies or similar technologies as described below.
  • Some interactive tools may be designed to keep the information you enter in your browser or on your device. When a tool works this way, the tool will say so. Information stored locally is not sent to us unless you take an action that submits or shares it.
  • Self-Made Success is not an employer or staffing agency and does not process applications for jobs listed or discussed on the Site. If you follow a link and apply on another website, that site’s privacy policy applies.
  • We do not sell email lists or other personal information for money. Certain digital advertising activities may be considered a “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” under some privacy laws even when no money changes hands. See Sections 5 and 9 for details and available choices.

2. Information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you use the Site.

Information you provide

We may collect:

  • Email subscription information, such as your email address, name if requested, subscription source, and the job, side-hustle, or other content categories you choose to receive.
  • Messages and support information, including the contents of a message you send us and the contact information you use.
  • Survey, quiz, assessment, or tool responses when a feature is configured to submit those responses to us. A tool that stores information only in your browser is covered under “Information stored on your device” below.
  • Other information you voluntarily provide through a form or other Site feature.

Please do not send us Social Security numbers, financial-account credentials, medical records, copies of identity documents, or other highly sensitive information unless a specific feature clearly requests it and explains why it is needed.

Information collected automatically

When you visit or interact with the Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect:

  • IP address and approximate location derived from it;
  • browser, device, operating-system, and language information;
  • pages viewed, links clicked, referring and exit pages, dates and times, and other interactions with the Site;
  • cookie identifiers, advertising identifiers, and similar technical identifiers;
  • information about ad delivery, ad views, and ad interactions; and
  • diagnostic, security, fraud-prevention, and performance data.

Information stored on your device

Some Site tools may use browser storage or similar technology to save progress, preferences, or user-entered content on your device. For example, a resume tool may be designed to keep resume details in your browser rather than transmit them to Self-Made Success. If a tool is described as browser-local, we do not receive that locally stored content unless you deliberately submit, send, or share it through another feature. You can generally remove locally stored information by using the tool’s delete or reset control or by clearing your browser data.

3. How we use information

We may use information to:

  • operate, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the Site;
  • provide and improve articles, reviews, comparisons, job resources, assessments, calculators, and other tools;
  • deliver newsletters or alerts you requested and organize them according to your selected interests;
  • respond to questions, feedback, and support requests;
  • understand Site traffic, audience interests, content performance, and feature usage;
  • personalize content or advertising where permitted;
  • measure advertising, affiliate, email, and content performance;
  • prevent spam, fraud, abuse, security incidents, and technical problems;
  • maintain records, enforce our terms, protect rights and safety, and comply with law; and
  • evaluate or develop new features, products, and services consistent with this policy or another notice provided when information is collected.

We do not use the information you provide to apply for jobs on your behalf, and submitting information to Self-Made Success does not create an employment application with any employer featured on the Site.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

The Site and its providers may use cookies, pixels, browser storage, tags, and similar technologies. These technologies may be used to:

  • keep the Site working and remember settings;
  • protect the Site and detect abuse;
  • understand traffic and how visitors use the Site;
  • measure the performance of content, email campaigns, and affiliate links; and
  • deliver, limit, personalize, and measure advertising.

You can control cookies through your browser and, where available, through our [Privacy Choices / Cookie Settings] link. Blocking some technologies may affect how the Site or a tool works.

5. Analytics and advertising

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, currently implemented through MonsterInsights, to understand how people find and use the Site. Google may receive information such as the page URL, IP address, device information, and cookie or similar identifiers. You can learn more in Google’s explanation of how it uses information from sites that use its services. Google also offers a Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Google AdSense and other advertising providers

We use Google AdSense to display and measure advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor’s prior visits to this Site or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on visits to this Site and other sites on the internet.

You can manage Google ad personalization through Google Ad Settings. You may also be able to opt out of certain participating companies’ interest-based advertising through YourAdChoices or similar industry tools. Opting out of personalized advertising does not necessarily stop all advertising.

Where required, we ask for consent or provide an opt-out for cookies, personalized advertising, the sale or sharing of personal information, or targeted advertising. See Section 9.

6. Email subscriptions and communications

If you subscribe, we use the information you provide to send the newsletter, job alert, side-hustle update, or other category of email you selected. We currently use GetResponse to manage subscriptions and deliver email. GetResponse may process subscriber information and engagement data on our behalf, such as whether an email was delivered, opened, or clicked. You can review GetResponse’s Privacy Policy.

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in an email. We may keep limited information on a suppression list so that we can honor the opt-out.

We do not currently use an email subscription as consent for telemarketing, postal marketing, or SMS text-message marketing. If we introduce one of those channels, we will ask for any consent required before using it.

7. Affiliate links, sponsored content, embedded content, and external sites

Some pages contain affiliate links. If you click an affiliate link, the destination site or affiliate network may receive information such as the referring page, IP address, device information, and a cookie or other identifier used to attribute a visit or purchase. The Site may include sponsored content, social-media features, videos, or other content provided by third parties. Those parties may collect information when their content loads or when you interact with it. Their privacy policies, not this policy, govern their independent handling of information.

We also link to employer career sites, job platforms, financial tools, side-hustle platforms, and other external resources. Self-Made Success does not control how those sites collect, use, or disclose information. Review the destination site’s privacy policy before submitting an application, resume, payment information, or other personal information.

8. How we disclose information

We may disclose information to:

  • Service providers that help us host, secure, operate, analyze, monetize, and communicate through the Site. Current examples include WP Engine for hosting, Cloudflare for security and content delivery, Google for analytics and advertising, and GetResponse for email delivery and list management.
  • Advertising and analytics partners that process information for ad delivery, measurement, analytics, fraud prevention, or personalization, subject to applicable choices and law.
  • Affiliate and commercial partners when needed to attribute a referral, measure a campaign, or administer a promotion or relationship.
  • Professional advisers and transaction participants, such as lawyers, accountants, insurers, or parties involved in a potential financing, sale, merger, reorganization, or transfer of some or all of the business, subject to appropriate safeguards.
  • Government authorities or other parties when we reasonably believe disclosure is required by law or legal process, or is necessary to protect the rights, safety, security, or integrity of Self-Made Success, our visitors, or others.
  • Other parties at your direction or with your consent.

We do not sell or rent email lists or other personal information for money. As explained above, some laws may define certain advertising-related disclosures as a “sale” or “sharing” even when no money is exchanged.

9. Your privacy choices and rights

Depending on where you live and subject to legal limitations, you may have the right to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of certain personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; to withdraw consent; or to opt out of a sale, sharing, targeted advertising, or certain profiling.

You can:

  • unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any such email;

  • use the Google and industry advertising controls described in Section 5; or
  • submit a privacy request using the contact information in Section 15.

Where legally required, we will honor browser-based opt-out preference signals, such as Global Privacy Control, as a request to opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising for the browser or device that sends the signal. Retention periods vary by the type of information and the system in which it is stored. For example, we generally retain active subscriber information while you remain subscribed and may retain limited suppression information after you unsubscribe. Information stored only in your browser remains there until you or your browser removes it. Our service providers may retain information according to their agreements, settings, and legal obligations.

12. Data security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures intended to protect personal information. No website, transmission, or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. You are responsible for using appropriate care when deciding what information to submit online.

13. Children’s privacy

The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Self-Made Success and some of its service providers operate in, or process information from, the United States and other countries. Those countries may have data-protection laws different from the laws where you live. Where required, we or our providers use recognized safeguards for international transfers.
