Desperation can either help or hurt you as a business owner depending on how you handle it. Desperation can help you finally get the motivation and the sense of urgency you need to push yourself to do whatever it takes to make the money you need.
Or, it could make you do the wrong things that would make it obvious to people that you're desperate and struggling, therefore hurting your brand as well as your results. When it comes to network marketing especially, you need to make good first impressions when building rapport. Coming off as desperate will show prospects that you aren't successful and would not be a good mentor to learn from.
These Actions Show Your Desperation:
1. Spamming your link everywhere on social media, blogs, etc. will really turn people off. All that's good for is annoying people, and if you notice… None of the leaders ever do this.
2. Selling all the time in your emails instead of using the 80/20 rule. If you aren't familiar with the 80/20 rule, it's when you give value 80% of the time and ask for the sale 20% of the time. If you just sell 100% of the time, people will see you as just another salesman desperate for a sale.
3. Not building rapport with prospects. If you aren't actually building a relationship and trust with prospects, whether it is with email, personal messaging, talking on the phone, etc., you will be seen as someone who is desperate for sales that would not be a good person to work with.
How To Use Desperation The Right Way
Sometimes desperation could be exactly what you need to get over the hump and start seeing big results. In fact, if you think about it, a lot of the top internet entrepreneurs in world took years to finally see their first success and it came when their life had gotten to a very desperate point where they had no choice but to find a way to succeed.
Just think about all the rags to riches stories you've heard. It may seem kind of corny after hearing so many of them, but really, these people didn't have enough drive or a sense of urgency to do whatever it took to be successful until they had absolutely no choice. The problem in this industry is a lot of people wait until their back is against the wall to start taking massive action and get results.
The way people seem to be these days is a little too lazy. People tend to procrastinate and make excuses until they hit rock bottom and realize that they have no choice but to work hard. If you can find a way to create that sense of urgency or desperation mindset, so that you can use it the right way to get big results, without having to go to rock bottom, then you will do very well for yourself.
Desperation is a tricky thing and what people don't realize is that our mindsets are what keep us from success. It isn't all the mentor's fault, the lack of training, the learning curve or any of that so much as it is our mind's programming.
So I say to you, if you want a big income as an online entrepreneur or network marketer, you have to train your mind to have that desperation and sense of urgency to where you will do whatever it takes to get where you want to go.
