Here are 7 of the best photography business ideas for 2019.
Let me know what you think, ask me a question, or suggest something I cover in the future in the comments below!
1. Stock Photography
You can submit stock photos of offices, scenery, families, etc. on sites like Getty Images and Shutterstock.
To go full time with this, you'll probably need to publish about 40-50 new photos every month though.
2. Art/Products
Some websites lets you turn your photos into physical products or even prints.
With sites like MiPic and Redbubble, you can turn photos into apparel, prints, phone cases, towels, bags, and more. Then, you can sell these online.
In many cases, these sites let you your products without having a site of your own.
3. Instagram Business
If you have an Instagram account, you've probably seen lots of “influencers” that make a living taking photos of them exercising, traveling, eating crazy food, or doing something else.
An influencer can make money from brand sponsorships, account sales, paid shoutouts, product sales, etc. You can do the same thing with your photography.
All you need to do is post consistent, high quality photography that fits a certain theme, build an audience, and monetize using one of the methods above.
When it comes to social media, Instagram is probably by far the best for photography.
4. Photo Apps
If you aren't quite ready to sell products or get into stock photography, you might start out selling your amateur photos on an app like Foap.
With Foap, you basically have an Instagram-style profile that lets you sell your photos and videos that you took with your phone. No expensive equipment necessary!
5. Portrait Photography
Ever noticed how sites like Linkedin have millions of people with profession looking portraits of themselves? That's where you could come in.
But, when you're starting out, you should probably do free work for friends and family to build up a portfolio first.
6. Wedding Photography
“Look, I love two industries very much: I love weddings, and I love people dying. You know why? Because when both of those happen, people make stupid decisions. Emotional decisions, not financial decisions.”
Kevin O'Leary of Shark Tank
People spend A LOT of money on weddings. This is why Kevin O'Leary of Shark Tank loves investing in businesses that are related to that industry.
As a photographer, you are one of the most important people when it comes to making a wedding day special. You could very well make $2,500-$5,000 per wedding taking pictures.
7. Local Shows
I've been to a few local art shows where large, high quality photos sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars a piece. Combining local shows in large cities with a website (set one up here), you could make very good money from your photography.
