Job Highlight: Patient Advocate Specialist
The Patient Advocate Specialist works directly with patients to help them navigate government assistance programs and secure available healthcare benefits.
This role involves contacting patients by phone, assessing eligibility, assisting with applications, maintaining documentation, and following accounts through the approval process whenever possible.
Key Responsibilities
- Screen patients for eligibility under state, county, and federal assistance programs.
- Help patients complete and submit applications for available benefits and assistance programs.
- Explain available programs and provide detailed instructions regarding eligibility requirements and application deadlines.
- Follow assigned accounts through the application process and continue outreach efforts until all available options have been exhausted.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and detailed account notes within the CUBS system.
- Contact government agencies when necessary to obtain information or monitor application progress.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with patients throughout the process.
- Gather required patient information during initial contact whenever possible.
- Meet productivity goals while following company policies, confidentiality requirements, and compliance standards.
- Maintain positive working relationships with government agencies.
- Resolve accounts in a timely manner.
- Participate in the company's compliance program.
- Maintain an organized work environment.
- Assist with special projects and additional assignments as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous customer service or call center experience preferred.
- Previous medical billing or medical coding experience preferred.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Typing speed of approximately 30 to 40 words per minute.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable follow-up and task completion skills.
Work Environment
This is a remote work-from-home position.
Employees must have a quiet and private workspace suitable for handling confidential patient information.
The role requires sitting for extended periods while working on the computer and speaking with patients by phone.
Additional Notes
This position may be a good fit for candidates with backgrounds in customer service, healthcare administration, medical billing, insurance support, patient services, or call center operations.
Experience with government assistance programs is helpful but was not listed as a requirement.
