Tech Firefly is teaming up with a multinational technology company to hire several Content Moderators with a background in linguistics and journalism to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that user-generated content aligns with our community guidelines, maintains a high standard of quality, and is in compliance with applicable regulations. This position requires a deep understanding of linguistic nuances, journalistic principles, and a keen awareness of current events and news within the United States.

Content Moderator at Tech Firefly

This is a long-term contract position and will be 100% remote

Responsibilities

  • Review and moderate user-generated content, including text, images, and multimedia, to ensure compliance with community guidelines and content policies.
  • Analyze and interpret content through the lens of linguistic expertise and journalistic standards.
  • Utilize linguistic knowledge to assess and address potential issues related to language use, cultural sensitivity, and context in user-generated content.
  • Identify and understand linguistic nuances, ensuring that content is clear, respectful, and aligns with established guidelines.
  • Apply journalistic principles to evaluate news-related content for accuracy, fairness, and relevance.
  • Stay updated with current events, particularly within the United States, and assess user-generated content in the context of prevailing news stories.
  • Implement and enforce content policies consistently, addressing violations and providing clear feedback to users when necessary.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to continuously refine and improve content moderation processes.
  • Maintain clear and concise documentation of content moderation decisions.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams to escalate issues and provide insights on emerging trends in user-generated content.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Linguistics, Journalism, Communication, or a related field.
  • Strong background in linguistics with a focus on syntax, semantics, and discourse analysis.
  • Experience in journalism or related fields, with a solid understanding of news reporting and editorial standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Keen attention to detail and the ability to analyze content in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with current events and news trends within the United States.
  • Prior experience in content moderation or a similar role is a plus.
