When it comes to productivity tips, success, motivation, and overall self improvement, who is the first person that comes to mind? It's probably Tony Robbins. For me, it definitely is, at least.

He's coached Bill Clinton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Hugh Jackman and many other very successful people. He's also had millions of people at his seminars and events over the years.

He's known as pretty much the best personal development coach on Earth. So, what does the great Tony Robbins have to say about productivity? Here's a few top tips:

1. Take massive action

Tony Robbins said:

“Action is the most important key to any success.”

“What people can do is very different from what they will do.”

“The path to success is to take massive, determined action.”

“You see, in life, lots of people know what to do, but few people actually do what they know. Knowing is not enough! You must take action!”

Takeaway:

He teaches us that knowledge is useless without taking action on it. We can be the smartest person in the world, but without application, it means nothing and we could still live a mediocre life.

2. Have clear goals

Tony Robbins said:

“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.”

“Goals are like magnets. They'll attract the things that make them come true.”

“People are not lazy. They simply have impotent goals – that is, goals that do not inspire them.”

Takeaway:

We have goals whether we like it or not. If we have them anyway, we might as well change our goals to ones that bring us excitement and a better quality of life.

3. Build strong habits

Tony Robbins said:

“In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions. It's not what we do once in awhile that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.”

“For changes to be of any true value, they've got to be lasting and consistent.”

Takeaway:

We can't just do something every once in a while and expect big results. We are what we do on a daily basis. Our habits are what determine our success.

4. Make firm decisions

Tony Robbins said:

“A real decision is measured by the fact that you've taken a new action. If there's no action, you haven't truly decided.”

“It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped.”

“Using the power of decision gives you the capacity to get past any excuse to change any and every part of your life in an instant.”

“Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.”

Takeaway:

Your decisions are extremely important to your future, quality of life and success. Make them carefully and take an action on them as soon as you've made them to verify that you're serious about the decision and so you can start getting results.

5. Take care of your health

Tony Robbins said:

“The higher your energy level, the more efficient your body. The more efficient your body, the better you feel and the more you will use your talent to produce outstanding results.”

Takeaway:

If you don't think health and productivity are related, you're wrong. Your body is involved in everything you do. Take care of it, and you will feel energetic enough to be very productive for long periods of time.

Don't take care of it, and you will find yourself feeling fatigued, lazy and too tired to do anything productive.

6. Make changes

Tony Robbins said:

“If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten.”

“Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.”

Takeaway:

You can't just beat your head against a wall expecting to eventually break through. You need to always be looking at what is and isn't working, so you can improve your approach for better results.

7. Master your beliefs

Tony Robbins said:

“Beliefs have the power to create and the power to destroy. Human beings have the awesome ability to take any experience of their lives and create a meaning that dis-empowers them or one that can literally save their lives.”

“We will act consistently with out view of who we truly are, whether that view is accurate or not.”

“We are the only beings on the planet who lead such rich internal lives that it's not the events that matter most to us, but rather, it's how we interpret those events that will determine how we think about ourselves and how we will act in the future.”

“Things do not have meaning. We assign meaning to everything.”

Takeaway:

Whether you believe you can or believe you can't, you're right. I think Tony Robbins said that as well. You should try to shape your beliefs to benefit you, not hold you back.

You give meaning to everything because things don't have any meaning. Your subconscious mind can't tell the difference between positive and negative.

The beliefs and self talk you feed your mind are seeds that will grow into whatever you planted them to be. Make sure you only plant positive, beneficial seeds (beliefs) in your mind.

8. Learn from the best

Tony Robbins said:

“If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you'll achieve the same results.”

“Successful people ask better questions, and as a result, they get better answers.”

“Don't reinvent the wheel. Success leaves clues. Do what successful people do until you get the same results.”

Takeaway:

Chances are, no matter what you're trying to accomplish, something very similar has been accomplished before. If you study successful people in a similar industry, you'll always find some patterns that they share.

So, to save yourself some time and headaches, focus on modeling after and learning from the successful ones that have been there. You'll get better results and it will keep everything so much simpler.

9. Focus

Tony Robbins said:

“Most people have no idea of the giant capacity we can immediately command when we focus all of our resources on mastering a single area of our lives.”

“One reason so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.”

Takeaway:

Don't be a “jack of all trades”. Don't let yourself be scatter-brained, trying to improve too many things at one time. Focus your attention for greater achievement.

This is why many of the top performance coaches tell us not to multitask. This is why we must eliminate distractions while we work. Focus on one thing at a time.

You may have head the analogy: The suns rays don't burn unless they are focused on a small spot with a magnifying glass.

10. Stay committed

Tony Robbins said:

“There's no abiding success without commitment.”

“There's always a way – if you're committed.”

“The only limit to your impact is your imagination and commitment.”

Takeaway:

You probably won't get anything completely right on the first try. The people that fail are typically just the ones that don't stick with something long enough to succeed.

I'm not saying you won't have to improve your strategy, I'm just saying you have to stick to the goal.

11. Motivate yourself properly

Tony Robbins said:

“In life you need either inspiration or desperation.”

“The truth is that we can learn to condition our minds, bodies and emotions to link pain to pleasure to whatever we choose. By changing what we link pain and pleasure to, we will instantly change our behaviors.”

“The secret of success is learning how to use pain and pleasure instead of having pain and pleasure use you. If you do that, you're in control of your life. If you don't, life controls you.”

Takeaway:

Many of the most successful people in the world have rags-to-riches stories because it took total desperation for them to finally have the urgency to do what needed to be done for success.

Don't be one of those people that has to hit rock-bottom before getting motivated. Instead associate not doing what must be done to pain and doing what must be done to pleasure.

Learn to do that, and nothing will ever stop you from being motivated.

12. Everything is just feedback

Tony Robbins said:

“There is no such thing as failure. There are only results.”

“You always succeed in producing a result.”

“I've come to believe that all my past failures and frustrations were actually laying the foundation for the understandings that have created the new level of living I now enjoy.”

Takeaway:

Every successful person has failed many times. You may see the destination they ended up at on the outside, but you probably didn't witness the struggle they went through on the journey there.

Treat failure as feedback, telling you that you just found a method that didn't work and now you need to move to the next method. Success means you did it right and should build on it.

The thing is, it's process of elimination. You have to try and cross out all the ways that don't work until you find the one that does.

13. Have passion

Tony Robbins said:

“Passion is the genesis of genius.”

“Lack of emotion causes lack of progress and lack of motivation.”

Takeaway:

Don't turn into a robot, be passionate about the things you do. You don't remember events in your life without emotional connections. You don't enjoy anything without positive emotion.

Without emotion everything will be meaningless to you and you'll wonder what the point in everything is.
