Here are a few of the best ways to make some extra money on the side without much effort:
1. Shopping in-stores
Believe it or not you can actually make money shopping in-person at malls, outlets, etc. Using Shopkick, you get paid to walk in the store, scan barcodes or items, and get money back for buying something using the credit card you have on file with your account.
You get paid in points called “kicks” and convert them to gift cards to get paid.
2. Be a nanny, babysitter, housekeeper, etc.
With a site called “Sittercity,” you can get paid to be a babysitter, nanny, pet-sitter, care companion, or housekeeper.
It works kind of like Uber or GrubHub or something like that. You apply to do one of the above jobs I mentioned and if you get approved, you can create a profile, find work nearby with the app, and get paid.
3. Renting out your vehicle
If you don't always drive every day or have multiple vehicles, you might consider looking at Turo or Getaround. With these sites, you can list your vehicle, how much you're willing to lend it for, when it's available, and then get paid.
Of course, there is also insurance that goes with these sites and the transactions are paid via the app for easier payments.
4. Deliver food to people
Being a pizza delivery person might not be so bad if the pay was better, you got to work whenever you want, and you could avoid wearing those stupid company uniforms.
Well, now you can do all of that with apps like Uber Eats and GrubHub. These companies have partnerships with select restaurants, allowing people to order delivery from them, even if they don't have there own delivery people.
Customers just get on the app, submit their order at the restaurant they want. Then, you go pick it up at the restaurant, take the food to the customer's doorstep, and get paid.
Not only do you get a cut of the order fee, you also get tips as well.
5. Become a mystery shopper
With a company like Marketforce, you can make extra money by doing some mystery shopping. All you do is sign up, get the app for your iPhone or Android device, go to the available stores, and review different aspects of them.
You might take a few pictures, comment on the customer service, etc. This also helps businesses improve.
6. Get rid of stuff you don't use
These days, you can pretty much sell anything without much hassle. You can look around your home, find just about anything that you might want to get rid of, and sell it pretty easily through a website or app.
For instance, with Decluttr, you can sell old CD's, DVD's. phones, game consoles, etc. and get paid via PayPal. It's much easier than trying to sell this outdated stuff on eBay or something where people probably don't even care about that stuff anymore.
Another service you can use is Letgo. This is a great app for getting rid of clothes, furniture, games, tires, etc. easily. You just take some pictures of the item, describe it, post it, agree on a price, and the person picks it up.
You don't have to worry about exchanging money either because it is done through the app.
7. Do some handy-work, chores, etc.
At a site like TaskRabbit, you can find all kinds of easy gigs to do nearby. Many of which include hanging pictures, changing light bulbs, running errands, assembling furniture, etc.
People will pay you to do the easy things you already do around your home and you get paid through the app.
8. Hang out with some dogs
If you're a dog person, you might consider making some extra money dog sitting. With Rover, you can create profile, get approved, accept requests for caring for people's dogs, and get paid through the app.
Typical services include dog boarding, dog walking, daycare, and house-sitting.
9. Test websites and apps
With UserTesting, you can get paid around $30 per hour via PayPal to do 20 minute reviews of websites or apps.
You just go through the given tasks and give your thoughts on what you like or don't about the site or app you're reviewing.
This helps you make some easy money, discover new brands, and make businesses better.
10. Transcribe audio files
Another fairly easy way to make extra money is to be a transcriptionist. All you do is take an audio file (YouTube video, podcast episode, interview, etc.) and turn it into text form.
You need to have a decent WPM (words per minute) typing speed as well as good hearing and punctuation for this kind of work. You pay ranges between $5 and $25 per audio hour.
To test your WPM typing speed, go to a site like TypingTest.com.
11. Test video games
One of the most fun ways (especially for us millennial guys) to make extra money on the side is to test video games that are in development.
Although it isn't always easy to find these opportunities, they are out there. You can check gaming companies like Rockstar, Blizzard and others to see if they need any testers. Or, you could try a site like Modsquad who has had gigs paying $12 per hour to game testers.
If you aren't sure where to look, here's a list of websites that I've compiled to check for game testing gigs.
