I'll cover mostly data entry and transcription websites since those are the two main ways you can get paid to just type without needing much expertise.

Brands, resources, and examples mentioned:

  • Amazon Mechanical Turk has thousands of jobs or HITs (Human Intelligence Tasks) available 24/7. A lot of them are data entry-related, so you don't need to be super experienced. They pay you via Amazon gift cards or direct deposit.
  • Axion Data Entry Services doesn't always have work available, but is still a great option you should check on periodically. They require 2-3 years experience in data entry and a 50 WPM typing speed. You can test your typing speed here for free.
  • Clickworker usually has quite a bit of work available to independent contractors relating to data entry, editing, research, etc. You take small assessments to prove what you're qualified for and get more work for quality performance. You get paid weekly via PayPal.
  • Microworkers is another website where you get paid as an independent contractor to do micro tasks like data entry. Sometimes, you may come across a job that's not legit, so be careful. You get paid via PayPal on acceptance of your completed work.
  • SigTrack has seasonal work that is data entry related. The work is mostly centered around voter registration and things like that. As far as payment, you get paid via PayPal, but that's only if you maintain 98% accuracy. Also, you must be a U.S. citizen and meet system requirements.
  • Working Solutions tends to have data entry work available, but you must apply and do some skill assessments to get paid (approval/disapproval process may take a couple of weeks). They pay via direct deposit or a check in the mail.
  • The Smart Crowd is a branch of Lionbridge that helps you get work-from-home jobs centered around data entry. Your pay rate may vary and you receive funds monthly. They will evaluate what they think you're qualified to work on.
  • DionData Solutions may have some typing work for you if you have a 60 WPM typing speed and a very high accuracy rate. U.S. citizenship is also required to work with them.
  • Birch Creek Communications occasionally looks for independent contractors to do some transcription work for them. They pay 0.40/audio min – 1.75/audio min depending on the job, turnaround time, and accuracy of your work.
  • Smart Apartment Data sometimes offers data entry work that involves gathering information about apartments for database records. You must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
  • Great American Opportunities sometimes has data entry work available as well. The work is usually seasonal and you may have to email them directly for job inquiries.
  • Xerox also hires people to work from home doing data entry type work. Check back every so often to see when these positions are available.
  • TDEC is always looking for Data Entry Operators. Even if their jobs page doesn't have a data entry position listed, they recommend you submit an application to jobs@tdec.com just in case.
  • OneSpace provides workflow automation services for businesses, but they also have a freelance section on their site. Here, you can find transcription, writing, editing, and other jobs you may be interested in. You can also submit your application even if the right work isn't available yet and they'll get back to you when it is.
  • Capital Typing is a company that specializes in offering transcription, data entry, and other related services. To inquire about working for them, use the form provided on the contact page.
  • TranscribeMe is one of the bigger transcription websites where you get paid to turn audio into text. Your pay would start a $20 per audio hour via PayPal if you pass the transcription test they provide. You get paid more if you have a background in medical or legal transcription.
  • Rev pays you to do transcriptions, captions, subtitles, and translations. You get to choose your own schedule as well as projects while getting paid via PayPal. Pay ranges vary depending on which types of jobs you work on.
  • AccuTran Global is another website where you can get paid to do transcription work. They require a 60 WPM typing speed and you must pass some tests to check your skills. You could get paid between $40 and $50 per hour if accepted.
  • Quicktate is yet another transcription company that you can work for online. You must pay $15 to apply and if you get accepted, you'd be paid $0.01 for every 4 words you accurately transcribe. You get paid via PayPal weekly.
