I heard once that the way you start off your day is also the way you tend to go through the rest of it. If you're starting off in a negative state, that creates problems and can hurt the rest of your day.

This is why I always stress the importance of starting off your day with a positive mental attitude.

I believe that it is extremely important that you have some kind of morning routine that will help you feel good and have a good mindset that will prepare you for any daily challenges you must overcome.

How do you do this? You plan out a system that starts when you get up in the morning that puts you in a primed state of health and positivity that allows you to be your best self during the entire day.

I actually have a morning routine I like to follow for priming myself before work that I developed after learning from some of the top leaders that I look up to.

Maybe once you see mine and we talk a little about it, you'll be able to develop your own routine to help yourself a more positive, productive attitude each day.

 

 

First: Smile

I smile as big as I can first thing in the morning, because although it sounds kind of corny, it puts you in a better mood immediately. In fact, there is a scientific explanation that is behind why it works.

When you smile, you are using all these different muscles in your face, releasing endorphins which naturally reduce our perception of pain and stress. When a study was done where clinically depressed people had to smile for 15 minutes per day, their depression symptoms radically improved.

 

Second: Drink Water

Drinking water is essential to your well being. Our bodies are made up of about 60% of water, so it is essential that we refuel our bodies with it.

I like to have a nice glass of water in the morning to wake myself up and give myself some natural energy, as well as cleanse my body of any leftover toxins.

If you feel better, it reflects with a more positive attitude. And, on top of that, it's estimated that one glass of water can make your brain work 14% faster, so why not take advantage?

 

Third: Think About Monthly Goals

I have a whiteboard up in my home office that I use for planning, brainstorming, and writing down my goals. I have two sets of goals that I like to keep on there at all times: my monthly and daily goals.

It is always motivating to come into my home office and look at my monthly goals to just get myself pumped up. I'm always in a positive state of mind because I always know what I'm working towards.

 

Fourth: Meditation / Breathing Exercise

Your entire body and all of its cells need constant oxygen. To help yourself feel really good and energized, do some simple, deep breathing exercises or meditations for at least 10 minutes a day. These will help calm your mind by clearing from everything and just focusing on breathing.

You would be surprised how many influential people throughout the world say meditation really helps them be more productive.

Fifth: Think About What You're Thankful For

One of the absolute best ways to get in the right state of mind is to realize how thankful or grateful you are about something. Gratitude is always one of the top positive feelings you can have.

Some of things I'm thankful for:

  • My family
  • My friends
  • My health
  • My businesses
  • My lifestyle
  • My car
  • My house
  • My animals
  • My spirituality
  • My mentors

What are you thankful for? Write it down on a piece of paper and put it up where you can see it everyday as a constant reminder for why should feel positive about your life.

When you say these things to yourself daily, use them as “I am” statements to really feel it and let flow through your conscious and subconscious minds. Example: “I am thankful for…my family.”

Sixth: Think About What You're Passionate About

Passion is another one of the strongest emotions you can feel. It can be channeled to anything you want and is especially powerful as a form of positive energy. Think about what you are passionate about.

Some of the things I'm passionate about:

  • My businesses
  • Helping people succeed
  • Enjoying life
  • Helping family and friends
  • Providing value to the world
  • Learning
  • Fitness

What are you passionate about? Write it down on a piece of paper or the same one you wrote the things you're grateful for on, so you can read it everyday aloud. Once again, use “I am” statements for the best effect.

 

Seventh: Think About What You're Committed To

This goes with your goals and what you will give up or do to achieve them. You have to stay committed and consistent to achieve anything worth achieving. What will you do to reach the goals you have set for yourself? What will you give up to reach them?

Write these things down, read them aloud each morning and you will be pumped up everyday.

 

Eighth: Do Some Reading

What do you want to be good at? What do you want to accomplish? I guarantee, there are hundreds if not thousands of books out there that can help you get their. If you want to be better at business, read Think and Grow Rich.

If you want to master the way your mind works, read The Power of Your Subconscious Mind.

Whatever you want to accomplish, a little reading everyday will get you in the right mindset and increase your knowledge little by little on the subjects that interest you.

Ninth: Write Down Your Daily Goals

Your monthly goals are something you should always be thinking about, but it is the small task that you do day in and day out that get the biggest results. What are you going to do today to work towards your goals in life?

Take daily, consistent action and you will eventually achieve what you want. For more on the positive effects of writing down your goals, read here.

 

Tenth: Eat A Healthy Breakfast

If you eat a bunch of donuts and croissants for breakfast, you'll probably feel like crap later and just want to do nothing but sleep all day. This is obviously not what you want and you need to be in a positive state that allows you to be productive.

But, at the same time, you still have to eat right? Go for a breakfast that will keep you feeling energized and healthy. Fuel your body with the right things like protein, vitamins, calcium, healthy carbs, etc.

Depending on your health goals, you may eat different things. But I always recommend you stay away from gluten, wheat and sugar. Sugars from fruit is natural and okay, but when it comes to donuts, cinnamon rolls, cereal, etc. that are full of sugar, stay away.

Always have a protein source like eggs, egg whites or greek yogurt. Maybe even throw in a piece of fruit and some green tea for energy and vitamin C. Don't overdo it on the coffee either. Coffee releases toxins in our bodies.

I won't get into an entire lesson on how to eat in this article for the sake of time, but cutting out gluten, wheat, coffee and sugar will make a HUGE difference.

 

Eleventh: Run/Workout

If you want to feel positive, be energized and productive throughout the day, give your body a nice workout. Whether you go for a run, lift weights, do crossfit, etc., just stay active and use your body physically each day to feel and look your best.
